Time- can we learn to live more in the moment?

What if we had plenty of time

To keep myself in tip-top form, I regularly participate in reciprocal hypnotherapy. When I had my session this morning, I explored many positive aspects of my life. I then set myself the goal of managing my time better and making my time a richer experience.

There are several definitions for the word ‘rich’. The one that most closely matches my goal is where I would experience time as plentiful and abundant. How many of us have said to ourselves if only I had more time. The mind boggles. I could finally finish decorating the bathroom, spend more time with friends, sign up for art classes!

Get into the driving seat and steer your thoughts

Our brain doesn’t know the difference between imagination and reality. Because of this, this thought is creating an enjoyable sensation of motivation and excitement. I am exploring the potential that we all have to shake ourselves out of old, habitual ways of thinking and adopt a new perspective.

As you read this, you may be thinking, don’t be daft there aren’t enough hours in the day. The funny thing is, when I slow down, time seems to expand. I begin to relax and feel more in the moment.

So much to do

I have just moved house and I am in the process of planning my wedding. This is in addition to keeping all the other aspects of my life ticking over. Before I went into my hypnotherapy session, I realised that my stress levels had gone up. I was tipping into overwhelm and trying to do too much at once. I felt like I was running out of time and began to panic. My usual sense of inner calm was slipping away.

Focus on the positives

Luckily, as I got into the swing of solution focused hypnotherapy, my mind began to focus on more productive ways of thinking. I was in the right frame of mid to appreciate what I was doing well. As I did so, could feel my confidence and energy go up. After experiencing hypnosis, I was ready to get on with my day and enjoy it.

And breathe…enjoy the moment

That hourly session was definitely a rich experience. It also had a positive affect on the hours that followed, in that I remained relaxed and highly productive. Taking my tea break in the garden, savouring the cheese and pickle sandwich I ate at lunchtime, sharing my bumper crop of pears with neighbours, all helped to enrich my day.

I realised that I did have time. And it’s interesting that I got more of my ‘to do’ list ticked off when I wasn’t sweating the small stuff. I had been so busy trying to tackle everything at once and this was not good for my emotional and physical state. When we feel under threat, anxiety can kick in; raising our cortisol and adrenaline levels. This can make us feel hyper vigilant and on edge.

Time can be golden

So, yes, I think we can explore a new take on our relationship with time and consciously slow it down. We can stand back and observe. Put things in a wider perspective. I know that when I take even a few seconds to appreciate what I do have, it can transform the way I think, feel and behave. How we choose to use time can be worth its weight in gold because we are investing in our wellbeing and future.

The exciting potentials within neuroplasticity

I am forever excited by neuroplasticity! In other words, this means we all have the potential to rewire our brains and change the way we think. All of us can therefore tap into this amazing ability. Because of this, we can take responsibility for our brains! Solution focused hypnotherapy can help us achieve this.
