Is it time for a good clear out?
Did you know February is named after the purification ritual ‘Februa’, which is an old Roman spring cleaning festival?
Are YOU ready for a spring clean this February? Perhaps your mind feels cluttered. As a consequence, you may be finding it hard to focus.
Let go of the past
Letting go of things that are no longer useful can be incredibly freeing. Thanks to neuroplasticity; we can all move on from the past and free ourselves from thoughts and memories that no longer serve us. In other words, we can rewire our brains.
Solution focused hypnotherapy doesn’t involve delving into the past. Instead, it is about embracing the present and moving forward. It is interesting how many clients talk about how they are de-cluttering their homes. In a nutshell, sorting out mental clutter can motivate us to do the same in our living environment.
Exploring the potential benefits of clearing out
From a psychological perspective, de-cluttering can bring about many benefits. This is explored by Psychology Today:
Are you getting side tracked by your thinking?
If our thinking is cluttered we could also feel muddled and therefore lack good judgement. Excessive or prolonged stress can drain us emotionally and deplete our motivation. As a result, any sense of excitement about the future can diminish. Negative overthinking can begin to take over because we are losing sight of the good things.
When I have been stressed in the past and look back now, I can laugh at the absurdity of the things I was worrying about. None of the bad things I was envisaging actually happened. In short, most of the things we negatively forecast when we are overly stressed don’t ever happen!
Hypnotherapy can help you focus on what is useful
Catastrophising in this way can cause us to get us trapped in a cycle of negative thinking. Hypnotherapy can help you break free and let go of negative thoughts. The solution focused approach I use helps you re-direct your thinking in positive ways, therefore encouraging positive thoughts to increase. The benefits of positive mental focus mind can be far reaching. Similarly, often our enjoyment of life also increases. Solution focused hypnotherapy can give you the confidence and motivation to create a more sparkly future for yourself.
Light up the love
February’s celebration of St.Valentine’s love can be a great reminder to appreciate others. Whether single or with a partner, we can celebrate love in its many forms, including our beloved pets. Acknowledging the positive and supportive relationships in our lives is good for our mental and emotional health.
Let go of negative self-talk
Is the relationship we have with ourselves loving? Is our self-talk positive? For example, are we using encouraging words as part of our internal dialogue? Even spring cleaning can be seen as an act of self-love. In that, as we care for our homes, we are creating a beautiful space that we can enjoy and feel comfortable in. Building on the cleaning metaphor, do we need to pick up a feather duster and clear away those negative thoughts? This can be very useful because the dusty cobwebs of old negative belief patterns can hide our good aspects.
Are you struggling to think positively?
Maybe you are struggling to break free from negative thinking and self-sabotage. Hypnotherapy can help you develop the ability to manage stress, overcome negative thinking and confidently step into a brighter future.
I have helped many people tap into their innate strengths and capabilities, often discovering new ones along the way. You can take steps to be the person you want to be and know you can be.
