When does anxiety become a problem?
It is natural to feel anxious at times; maybe you have a talk to deliver, have a difficult meeting coming up or you are about to take your driving test. It can even be as a result of exciting, big events like getting married. However, do you feel like your anxiety is pervasive and won’t go away? Maybe you have been feeling anxious for weeks, months, even years. It may have been building up gradually, like a dripping tap in the background. So if something negative or unexpected happens it can feel like it’s the last straw. Daily life, with its usual ups and downs, could then become a struggle.
How solution focused hypnotherapy can help reduce anxiety
Taking steps to get support can help you break the vicious cycle of worrying and negative thinking. Solution focused hypnotherapy looks at how we create anxiety, how it affects us and what we can do about it.
Through the advances of neuroscience, we can see what is going on in our brains when we experience anxiety.
Break unhelpful thought patterns
Hypnotherapy can help you break the thinking patterns that create anxious feelings and put new ones in their place. You are encouraged to build confidence in your ability to change the way you think and focus more on the positive aspects of your life.
Through hypnosis you can experience a deep level of relaxation, whilst focusing on what you would like to achieve. This can be a very powerful tool to help you feel calm and confident so you are ready to make positive changes. Being in a trance state/hypnosis is completely natural and you are always in control of your own mind.
Common symptoms which indicate you are overly anxious
When we experience high levels of anxiety we are on red alert mode, scanning for danger and preparing ourselves to fight, flee or freeze.
Physical symptoms can include:
- Fatigue
- Muscle aches and tension
- Tight feeling in the chest
- Shortness of breath
- Stomach ache and digestive issues
- Sickness
- Headache
- Changes in your heartbeat or increased heart rate
- Dizziness
- Trembling or shaking
- Trouble sleeping
Other symptoms:
- Difficulty concentrating and remembering things
- Feelings of dread and depressive thoughts
- Feelings of panic
- Excessive worrying
- Overthinking
- Feeling on edge and hypervigilant
- Inability to switch off and relax
Heightened anxiety and fear responses
You may have anxiety around something specific such as an intense fear of spiders or heights. When it is extreme this can impact on your life and stop you doing the things you need to do or want to do. Hypnotherapy can be very effective for helping you overcome fears and phobias. You may be experiencing anxiety around past events and trauma and this could be holding you back.
Adopting new and more helpful ways of thinking
Solution focused hypnotherapy can help you process these events so they are no longer producing an emotional response, putting you back in control and able to respond differently. You are encouraged to look at where you are now and moving forward, where there is no need to delve into the past. Neuroscience shows that our brains have plasticity and we can effectively rewire the way we think. We all have the potential to adopt new ways of thinking, and as we do this more and more, we are strengthening new neural pathways. So many clients have commented that the things that used to make them anxious are just not in their thoughts any more.
